The Kendogi (剣道衣) or Kendō uniform originated from the samurai class established in the Edo period, incorporating Confucian and Zen Buddhist principles. It is an important component of the "Rei" (礼) or etiquette in Kendō.

The Kendogi jacket is made of cotton fabric with a granular texture, which provides protection against external impacts. The "十" (cross) emblem on the back of the jacket is formed by stitching lines onto the cloth.
